Traditional print work
Print work
A collection of various other print projects ranging in several print techniques and styles. From screen printed posters to relief and intaglio printing, this page showcases my work outside of graphic design.
Learning printing techniques and creating fine art has been one of my favorite side quests. It is something I can do for myself and a space where I can create in a way that I usually don’t.
Here I get to explore different art styles and content, developing my natural tendencies further and exploring themes I’m interested in, including robots and music.
Screen Printing
Inspired by a new album by Muse and my previous screen printed poster, I decided to make another poster following the same long and thin composition.
The visuals take inspiration from the Cydonia poster an follow the same style, with curving lines in the background and pencil mark shading adding definition and texture to the faces.
Relief Printing
The figures carved into this linoleum block are a large amalgamation of several animal and plant body parts. The main plant lady is inspired from venus flytraps, pitcher plants, and beetles, accompanied by a three headed dog with goat hooves.
Intaglio Printing
Similar to stone lithography, this piece uses sharpie and polymer plates to create a four layer lithographic print.
During the printing process, I had a bit of a happy accident. Unable to find the material I needed to make my red ink more transparent, so I just added loads of varnish instead just to see what would happen.
What happened was I was stressed about the ink not correctly adhering itself to the polymer plate, and then delighted at the gory looking marks it naturally made.
The red messed up ink added another layer to my piece that I couldn’t have done if I was in complete control. I ended up loving the later messy prints much more that the clean ones.
Intaglio Printing
Stone lithography uses grease pencil and a combination of Gum arabic and acid to create a printable surface in limestone. For this piece, I used the square edge of the grease pencil to create cliff like impressions.
